The School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is globally recognized for excellence in hospitality education. To maintain this elite standard, the university launched a major infrastructure build to design and install a fully integrated Audio Visual, Video Conferencing, and Lecture Recording system across its existing function rooms.
The primary goal of this project was to establish a high-performance, dual-purpose ecosystem. The system had to guarantee flawless execution for daily hybrid teaching needs. Simultaneously, because these spaces are utilized by Hotel ICON, the technology had to deliver premium, five-star hotel-class event capabilities. Every component required meticulous integration to balance top-tier operational efficiency with clean, elegant architectural aesthetics.

Smart Audio Visual (AV) Signal Distribution via Crestron AVoIP
The core backbone of this high-performance installation relies on an enterprise-grade Audio Visual over Internet Protocol (AVoIP) network architecture. High-bandwidth digital data is routed efficiently via ultra-low latency Crestron DM-NVX-360 encoder/decoder endpoints to manage high-resolution video distribution across the complex.
Visual clarity is powered by Epson EB-L730U 7,000 lumens Laser WUXGA projectors, which are seamlessly integrated with motorized automated projector lifts. This setup allows the entire display framework to retract flush into the ceiling when not in use, maintaining clean room aesthetics for high-end corporate events.

AI-Driven Video Conferencing (VC) Interactivity and Microphone Arrays
To generate an immersive environment for remote participants, the Video Conferencing (VC) subsystem actively pairs intelligent multi-axis tracking cameras with an automated microphone matrix. Each function room utilizes a Lumens VC-TR40 AI Auto-Tracking PTZ camera featuring advanced face recognition and stage auto-framing capabilities.
The tracking camera operates in real-time coordination with a Shure MXA920 ceiling array microphone and a Shure P300 audio conferencing processor. When an instructor or student speaks, the Shure MXA920 detects the precise acoustic direction and guides the Lumens VC-TR40 camera to focus on them instantly.
The low-latency wireless audio layer is rounded out by Shure MXWAPT4 transceivers, Shure MXW2/SM58 handheld transmitters, Shure MXW1/WL-185 bodypack microphones, and Shure MXWNCS4 networked charging stations, outputting pristine sound through Shure MXN5W-C Dante-enabled ceiling loudspeakers.

Automated Lecture Recording (LR) and Centralized Crestron Control
Capturing, processing, and archiving academic assets cleanly requires a hands-free, automated Lecture Recording (LR) infrastructure. At the center of the capture layout is the Lumens LC-200 four-channel media processor, which mixes and streams up to four high-definition video sources concurrently, including presenter feeds, media streams, and digital annotation cards.
End-users orchestrate the entire hybrid environment without complex training via a unified control interface displayed on a Crestron TS-1070-W 10.1-inch tabletop touch panel. With a single tap, presenters can seamlessly coordinate volume levels, engage lecture recording commands, or adjust room routing paths across split or combined classroom partitions.
